Former Catalans boss Trent Robinson turns Super League target’s head away from the UK

Former Super League coach Trent Robinson turned new Sydney Roosters signing Connor Watson away from the UK.

That’s according to Watson himself, who spoke to the NRL about why he chose to sign for Robinson’s current side instead of making the trip to the northern hemisphere.

“The call was more of an advice call to Robbo (Trent Robinson),” Watson said.

“I had an offer to go to Super League, but I wanted to get an external opinion on it from someone who’s been over in Super League and who knew me as a person and player.

“I asked him if it would be a good career move and where I see things going, but he was curious whether the Roosters could get me back and it eventuated that way.”

The 25-year-old has been at Newcastle since 2018 after coming through the Sydney reserves program, but will be heading back to where it all started ahead of the 2022 season.
