Former Castleford Tigers forward shares awful eye injury

Former Castleford Tigers forward Lee Jewitt recently posted a photo of himself whilst playing the game of rugby league in his hey day.

It was a snap taken when he used to play for the Tigers between 2014 and 2016, with a horrific deep cut above his eye needing stitches after a clash with Salford prop Olsi Krasniqi.

The prop forward had joined the Widnes Vikings in 2021 but failed to make an appearance.

Jewitt will most famously be known at the Jungle for his try in the Tigers’ Challenge Cup quarter-final success over, ironically, over first club Wigan back in 2014 as Daryl Powell’s reign came to a superb start.

The 34-year-old – who also registered over 100 appearances for Salford – has suffered from long-term injuries during his one year with the Vikings and leaves at the expiry of his contract.

It’s likely that Jewitt will now concentrate on matters outside of the sport, with the ex-prop now running his own sports counselling and welfare programme.

Jewitt made his debut for the Warriors back in 2005, but made just two appearances before moving to the then-named Salford City Reds.

Seven seasons later and the forward was on the move to the Limoux Grizzlies in France, but soon returned to join Castleford.
