Featherstone Rovers have been working hard in terms of retentions recently tying the likes of Luke Briscoe, Junior Moors and Mark Kheirallah to new deals no matter what happens in Sunday’s semi-final against Batley and a potential Million Pound Game battle with favourites for promotion Leigh.
Now you can add another man to this list in John Davies. Davies started his career at Castleford in 2009 however he had loan spells at York and Dewsbury during his time as a Tiger prior to joining Batley Bulldogs permanently in 2013 making over 50 appearances.
In 2015 he had a one year spell at Sheffield before making a real home for himself at Featherstone where he still finds himself now.
He has now signed a new deal to ensure his stay at Post Office Road ticks into another year as 2023 rolls around, a big year for the club which could determine its future with IMG set to make wholesale changes to rugby league which could open or shut the door on Featherstone’s Super League hopes.
Davies and co will be hoping that they can cement a place in Super League for 2023 however especially if they can defeat Batley this weekend to book their place in another Million Pound Game after losing last year’s to Toulouse.
Underdogs because of Leigh’s form, there’s no real pressure on the West Yorkshire side and they have the added bonus of having serial final winner Brian McDermott at the helm.
Who knows, maybe Davies will be playing in Super League come 2023.
