After another brilliant round of rugby league, plenty of players have received massive praise namely record-breaking Bevan French.

But what about those who haven’t received the lime light?

With that in mind, here’s our five underrated performers from this weekend’s Super League action.

Liam Marshall
Understandably, the spotlight from Wigan’s 60-0 victory over Hull FC has been on Bevan French, who scored seven tries. However, on the opposite flank, Liam Marshall’s efforts have gone unnoticed. He made 198 metres, as well as six tackle breaks and four clean breaks. Although the game would have been won regardless, the performance of Wigan’s wingers will give them confidence, and they pose a real try-scoring threat on both edges which will be vital in closer contests.

George Griffin
Castleford comfortably beat Warrington at home on Saturday, as they dominated field position and intelligently put the game beyond Warrington in the first half. This was helped by the efforts of George Griffin, who made 148 metres. He was impressive both in defence and attack, and was just too good for Warrington’s lightweight forward pack, speeding up the ruck to keep his side on the front foot.

Andy Ackers
There were a number of impressive performances during Salford’s victory over Catalans, but the man at the centre of it deserves recognition. Ackers played almost the full game, and came off towards the end to a standing ovation. His defensive efforts kept Catalans from scoring for huge portions of the game, and he regularly took advantage of quick play the balls, assisting Salford’s first try of the second half.

Curtis Sironen
In St Helens’ impressive win against Huddersfield, each player had to step up after Sione Mata’utia received a red card early in the match. Sironen had one of his best games so far in a St Helens shirt, making four offloads and completing 32 tackles. He was aggressive in defence and stepped up to the challenge as the game became more physical, and made metres to allow Jack Welsby and Jonny Lomax to create the tries.

Matty Russell
With a try and over 200m made, Russell was integral to Toulouse’s victory that saw them go above Wakefield. As Toulouse’s top try scorer with 11, Russell is the side’s biggest threats. He made seven tackle breaks and two clean breaks, and gave the young Leeds side plenty to think about when he got the ball. His carries helped his side through a tense second half as Toulouse fought to hold onto the lead.
