Five Super League teams who have suffered the most with injuries in 2022

The 2022 Super League season has been marred by injury and suspension with almost no team going through the season totally unscathed.

But which teams have suffered the most with injuries in 2022? Plenty of teams can claim to have done it toughest but who has had it the worst?

That’s what we’re trying to answer today with five teams who can lay claim to suffering the most with injuries in 2022.

Hull KR
This one is an obvious one. The Robins played their final league game with just 16 men such as the amount of injuries throughout their squad. In fact, throughout the club they had over 30 injuries at the end of the season ensuring that the reserves derby could not go ahead. They lost key men like Jordan Abdull, Ryan Hall and Lachlan Coote. Even the never injured Shaun Kenny-Dowall routinely picked up injuries in 2022.

Hull FC
Like their near neighbours, Hull FC also suffered massively with injuries in 2022 as they often seem to. Their entire first choice backline has all been struck down by injury at one point or another throughout the season whilst plenty of their forwards have also been in and out of the side with injuries. Joe Cator has sadly hardly played in 2022 and the number of academy players the Black and Whites have had to turn to epitomises just how tough Hull have done it this year bringing in three loan signings towards the middle of the campaign just to alleviate.

Salford Red Devils
This may seem strange to say, but Salford have struggled with injuries in 2022 despite the fact that they’re first choice spine played almost the entire season until head knocks undid them at the crucial time of the year. However it was in other areas where Salford struggled with injuries routinely naming just 17 and 18 man squads for a long stretch of the season when they were ironically playing their best rugby. This was putting a massive physical strain on those fit and whenever the Red Devils got one player back fit they would seemingly lose another.

St Helens
St Helens forward Matty Lees said this week that he thinks the Saints have been “hit worst” with injuries in 2022, and he certainly has a point despite the fact the Saints were still able to finish top and make the Grand Final. They started the season without Regan Grace, whilst Tommy Makinson, Will Hopoate, Mark Percival, Jonny Lomax, Sione Mata’utia and others have been in and out of the side with injuries. Lewis Dodd’s season came to an end on Good Friday with injury whilst Alex Walmsley’s season has been ended prematurely ahead of the semi-finals and Grand Final.

Leeds Rhinos
Even now Leeds are doing it tough with injuries. They’re headed in the Grand Final without David Fusitu’a, Harry Newman, Ash Handley, Aidan Sezer and Morgan Gannon all through injury. Meanwhile, Jack Walker, Blake Austin, Kruise Leeming, Richie Myler, Tom Holroyd – who hasn’t played once this year – Bodene Thompson and Tom Briscoe enduring lengthy spells on the sidelines. It was these injuries that prompted Leeds to sign Zak Hardaker when things got desperate for them squad wise. They also needed Yusuf Aydin on loan earlier this year and had to rely on two 17-year-olds for three games in a row.
