Five players who have played for the most Super League clubs

A number of Super League players sometimes stay at one club their whole career – Kevin Sinfield, for example.

Others, meanwhile, are what what can be described as ‘journeymen’. That is, they have spent periods at many different sides.

But, just which five players have played for the most Super League clubs?

Tommy Lee 

For a player whose career in the top-flight lasted 14 years, to have been at eight clubs is perhaps quite staggering. But, hooker Tommy Lee never really settled after leaving his boyhood club Hull FC in 2009 following five seasons on Humberside. Moves to Crusaders, Wakefield, Huddersfield, London, Salford, St Helens, and then finally Hull KR came about in a period of just ten years, leaving Lee as the record-holder for playing for the most top-flight clubs – eight.

Danny Tickle

Despite spending four and six years at Wigan and Hull FC respectively, Danny Tickle’s Super League career numbered seven clubs. In a period of 18 years, the forward began his career at Halifax before spending time at Wigan, Hull, Widnes, Castleford, Leigh, and finally Hull KR. Tickle then dropped down two divisions to join Workington in 2019 at 35 years of age. All in all, the forward registered over 1,000 Super League points.

Nick Fozzard

Another forward whose career spanned 18 years, Nick Fozzard was a crazy character on and off the field. Beginning his career with St Helens in 1993, Fozzard would go on to play for Leeds, Huddersfield, Warrington, St Helens, Hull KR, Castleford before joining Dewsbury in the Championship in 2012. Famous for his arm strapping that wouldn’t have looked out of place in ancient Egypt, the forward was loved by the clubs he played for and hated by those he played against.

Lee Gilmour

Hailing from Dewsbury, it’s perhaps surprising therefore that Lee Gilmour made a name for himself on the other side of the Pennines. Having started his career off at Wigan in 1997, the rangy second-rower/centre would play over 100 games for the Warriors as well as next clubs Bradford and St Helens. A three-year spell at Huddersfield was then followed with moves to Castleford and finally Wakefield where he hung up his boots in 2014.

Weller Hauraki

For a New Zealander that only came to the UK shores in 2010, to have played for six Super League clubs in just a decade is rather surprising. However, Weller Hauraki joined Crusaders RL at the start of that decade, impressing so much that he earned a deal at Leeds Rhinos the following season. Spells at Castleford, Salford, Widnes and finally Hull KR followed before the second-rower hung up his boots at the end of 2020.

For the record, Wayne McDonald, Jordan Tansey, Scott Moore, Richard Moore, Jamie Thackray and Oliver Wilkes have all played for six Super League clubs also.
