Five players Leeds Rhinos boss Rohan Smith should look to sign

May 1st has come and gone and now out-of-contract stars are able to talk and negotiate with other clubs.

That, of course, sends the rumour mill into overdrive with anybody and anyone linked at this time of year.

But, for Leeds Rhinos, who may be on Rohan Smith’s radar going into 2023?

Jake Trueman – Castleford Tigers

It’s been well documented that Leeds are in need of a stable halfback following the disruption with Aidan Sezer and Blake Austin. Well, Jake Trueman is out of contract at the end of 2022 and has been linked with the Rhinos in the past, but it could be a huge risk considering he has only just returned from serious back surgery.

Ricky Leutele – Huddersfield Giants

One of the most devastating centres in Super League, Ricky Leutele has it all in his locker. With the ability to take defenders with him over the line and with a hard-hitting shoulder in defence, Leutele would more than shore up the Leeds defence out wide. Plus, his experience could be key in guiding young players like Max Simpson.

Tim Lafai – Salford Red Devils

Having only signed a one-year deal at the AJ Bell Stadium, Samoan international Tim Lafai has put his name in the shop window following an excellent start to the season in a struggling Salford side. Potent out wide, Lafai could provide the Rhinos with some firepower in the centres.

Joe Lovodua – Hull FC

What a signing this would be for Leeds. Joe Lovodua, again, only signed a one-year deal with Hull FC upon his trip to Super League which leaves him free to negotiate with other clubs. The interest will be high considering just how well he has played so far for the Black and Whites in 2022.

Guy Armitage – Toulouse Olympique

One out of left field perhaps, but Guy Armitage has taken to Super League like a duck to water following his move to Toulouse Olympique after a spell in London and in rugby union. A remarkable offloader of the ball, the 30-year-old centre should have no shortage of suitors after excelling in the south of France.
