May 1st has come and gone and now out-of-contract stars are able to talk and negotiate with other clubs.
That, of course, sends the rumour mill into overdrive with anybody and anyone linked at this time of year.
But, for Hull FC, who may be on Brett Hodgson’s radar going into 2023?
Jake Trueman – Castleford Tigers
It’s been well documented that Hull are in need of a stable halfback following the disruption in the halves to Luke Gale and Josh Reynolds. Well, Jake Trueman is out of contract at the end of 2022 and has been linked with the Black and Whites consistently in the past, but it could be a huge risk considering he has only just returned from serious back surgery.
Brad Dwyer – Leeds Rhinos
Hull FC’s Danny Houghton is a stalwart of the club, but there comes a time when you know a career is winding down – and that time is perhaps now for the hooker. As such, Brett Hodgson will be more than likely keeping an eye out for a number 9. Brad Dwyer fits the bill perfectly with his sniping around the ruck being even more effective behind a huge pack as Hull FC’s.
Eloi Pelissier – Toulouse Olympique
Another number 9 with a reputation of feeding on a fast ruck, Eloi Pelissier would bring some aggression and physicality to the hooker’s role at Hull FC too. Pelissier has a wealth of Super League experience having been at the Catalans Dragons for six years at the start of his career.
Tom Johnstone – Wakefield Trinity
Imagine the finishing delight at having Darnell McIntosh on one wing and Tom Johnstone on the other. The Wakefield Trinity man has forged a reputation for himself as one of the most devastating finishers in Super League so it would be a real coup for the Black and Whites if they could lure Johnstone – who has a young family – to East Yorkshire.
Riley Dean – Warrington Wolves
Being behind both Gareth Widdop and George Williams in the halves at the Warrington Wolves can’t be easy, but Riley Dean has shown in his last few games that he is more than ready to step up to Super League level. With Hull FC desperate for another, younger halfback despite the prevalence of Ben McNamara, Dean could be the answer.
