Five of the best Super League signings made for 2022

The rumour mill is already in full flow following yet another dramatic end to a Super League season, with clubs wheeling and dealing.

But just which five stars’ signature for 2022 have impressed the most?

5. Marc Sneyd – Salford Red Devils

It was somewhat of a surprise when this signing was announced given Marc Sneyd still had a year left on his current Hull FC deal. However, he is likely to be the lynchpin on which Salford rely in 2022; with an incredible left foot and a rugby brain that very few can compete with, Sneyd perhaps lost his way a bit in his final season on Humberside. Now, back where he came through the academy and the halfback has the potential to be a huge fish in a small pond.

4. Curtis Sironen – St Helens

St Helens’ signing of 28-year-old second-rower Curtis Sironen from Manly Sea Eagles on a two-year deal, with the option for a third year, shows just the influence that the club has in the NRL. Sironen is the son of Balmain Tigers legend and retired Australian International, Paul Sironen, and has made 65 appearances for Manly, scoring on 17 occasions. But, the pull of Saints is arguably too much for many NRL stars with the likes of Kevin Naiqama, Lachlan Coote and Joel Thompson making the high-profile move in recent seasons. Sironen will be a major threat for Saints out wide with a huge frame and great athleticism taking the Red Vee to even greater heights in 2022.

3. Theo Fages – Huddersfield Giants

Theo Fages’ move to Huddersfield Giants was confirmed in mid-October with the diminutive halfback making the move across the Pennines in what many classed as a surprise move. With over 200 Super League games and 15 international appearances under his belt, Fages will bring a wealth of winning experience to the club after starting his career with Salford as a 16-year-old. The Frenchman made the move over to St Helens in 2016 where he has gone on to establish himself as one of the games top halfbacks and will more than fill the void left by Aidan Sezer.

2. Jake Mamo – Castleford Tigers

Perhaps Castleford’s most impressive signing heading into the 2022 season is the capture of entertainment guru Jake Mamo from Warrington. The 27-year-old began his career in the NRL with Newcastle Knights before moving to Huddersfield Giants in 2017. After two years with the Giants, Mamo joined the Wire in 2019, though he found himself in and out of the side until a great run of form saw him become one of Warrington’s main strike players in 2021. With an eye for a gap and lightning pace, Mamo will provide the Tigers with a superb threat on the edge.

1. Aidan Sezer – Leeds Rhinos

The 30-year-old joined the Giants for the 2020 season having played 155 games in the NRL for the Gold Coast Titans and Canberra Raiders where he became one of the most influential halves in the game. He made 25 appearances for the Giants since making that move to the Super League, though the last few months of his time at the John Smith’s Stadium were beset by injury. However, the signing is a major coup for the Leeds Rhinos who struggled for strength in depth in the halves in 2021. Ever the mercurial talent, watch him thrive in the big arena that is Headingley.
