5 Brisbane Broncos players available for Super League clubs to sign

Transfer activity in the Super League is red hot, with several clubs swinging into action to put their plans into place for 2025. With the Super League season approaching its mid-point, clubs have a better idea of where they need to strengthen for both this season and next.

With quota spots for overseas players at a premium, teams must be strategic with their additions from overseas. Hull FC have filled the two spots vacated by Nu Brown and Tex Hoy with the addition of overseas pair, Jed Cartwright and Treigh Stewart. Salford also look set to bolster their squad by signing Aaron Pene for the remainder of the 2024 season.

Wests Tigers are one of the clubs who have reportedly been offering some of their best talent to Super League. Now, it appears that a number of the Brisbane Broncos’ squad could also be available for transfer, with Super League clubs sure to be circling to bolster their squads for next year.

The  move is prompted by a desire to keep superstar full-back, Reece Walsh, who will now demand a bumper salary.

News in Australia broke this morning that veteran NRL forward, Martin Taupau was set to be released by the Broncos at the end of his current deal. Now, it appears that Taupau will be joined by four teammates who are also set to leave the club.

Fox League reports that Xavier Willison, Kotoni Staggs, Corey Jensen and Kobe Hetherington will all leave the Broncos at the end of the season when their deals with the club expire.

21-year-old Willison is a powerful prop forward who has been a regular in the Broncos side this season. He has played nine times for the Broncos this season, mostly from the bench, and scored his only try of the season in their round six win over the Dolphins.

Staggs is a centre, and his performances in the 2023 season earned him a call-up for the Australian side for the end-of-year tests. He has made 11 appearances for the Broncos this season, scoring twice.

30-year-old Jensen is another prop forward, who is known for his consistency and effort. He is another regular in the Broncos side, having made 12 appearances this season so far. He is a solid defender, who has made 327 tackles at a tackle success rate of 97%.

Hetherington won the Broncos Rookie of the Year award in 2021 and has remained a key member of their squad ever since. He is predominantly a loose forward and is a powerful ball carrier, having made 22 tackle breaks and 480 post-contact metres in the 2023 season. He has made 12 appearances for the Broncos this season.

Super League clubs are likely to face stiff competition from their NRL counterparts in the chase of these Broncos regulars.
