After defeat to Leeds Rhinos, Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont has taken to social media to air his frustrations on X.

The Leopards led 16-0 at halftime and were picking apart the Leeds Rhinos with considerable ease. They nearly extended their lead at the start of the second half with an Umyla Hanley try but he ended up with a foot in touch and the try was denied.

This was the start of the bad luck for the Leigh Leopards who lost Gareth O’Brien to a sin bin when he was penalised for a flop after an Andy Ackers break up the middle of the pitch.

That came after Rhyse Martin had scored to make it 16-6 and give Leeds hope of a come back. The Leopards were routinely punished for six agains and Matt Frawley would soon carve them up down the middle to score.

Then an Ash Handley doubled completed the comeback and gave Leeds a third win from their opening four which leaves them joint top of the Super League table with St Helens and Warrington Wolves.

But for Leigh it was a night of frustration as they were left ruing their own errors and some 50/50 calls that didn’t go there way and it seems Beaumont is not happy.

Derek Beaumont took to X after the match to say: “That is why the game is not investable and needs an absolute overhaul! I have kept quiet till now!”

He added that he would speak at the council meeting next Wednesday as he wants change: “Council meeting Wednesday and I will do my talking there! I will not sit and watch our game be driven into the ground! Fine me but you will not silence me! Game on.”

At the end of last year after a controversial defeat to Wigan Warriors, Beaumont made a similar complaint which was captured after the game in video footage.

He spoke of wealthy friends who could take over the sport and create a rival to Super League. Could he again push this idea after this controversial defeat to the Leeds Rhinos.

Derek Beaumont is a passionate man and a great thinker so it will be interesting to see what comes of this.
