Field facing months out with hamstring injury

Adrian Lam of Leigh Leopards wears a suit and tie.

Wigan Warriors Head Coach Adrian Lam has confirmed Jai Field will be out for up to five months with the hamstring injury he suffered against Leigh Centurions on Friday night.

Field had to be taken off after pulling up trying to catch an intercepted pass.

With Oliver Gildart and Dom Manfredi still a few weeks from coming back, it leaves Lam with another selection dilemma for Thursday’s match against Wakefield Trinity.

Lam said: “It is the worst case scenario with Jai. He has torn the belly of the hamstring, tendons and everything involved.

“It’s a real bad injury, five months he’ll be out.

“We are devastated for him, his family, the fans and as a club we need to make sure he feels OK. He has been here for a long time without his family.

“He has been isolated through the COVID period, and he finally got to play rugby and this happens.

“I think if he had have picked the ball up cleanly, the whole of Super League would have seen how fast he was. We will miss that, but we will have him back soon, and up and going.”
