Featherstone Rovers boss James Ford has included two trialists in his 22-man squad to take on Goole Vikings on Tuesday night. The West Yorkshire club were meant to face off against the League One new boys on Sunday afternoon, but the game was postponed and rearranged earlier this week due a frozen pitch.
As such, Featherstone will be the opponents in Goole’s first ever game as a professional outfit on Tuesday at the Millennium Stadium and Ford has named his squad. It’s a strong group, with a raft of new signings involved as the club prepare themselves for the start of the Championship campaign.
However, it also features two trial players with Max Rhodes and Dan Clarke getting the chance to impress as they look to earn permanent deals.
A raft of high profile recruits will also be in action for Featherstone, with former Wakefield Trinity man Derrell Olpherts set to feature. Australian half-back Zach Herring will get his first run out for his new club, too, as will his compatriots Clay Webb and Toby Boothroyd, with the latter joining from Wakefield.
Robson Stevens will hope to impress after returning from Down Under himself, while Jayden Hatton, Calum Turner, Jordan Williams and Will Jubb should also pick up some minutes.
The game will be Featherstone’s first of three pre-season friendlies with a clash against Dewsbury Rams set to follow next weekend before Ford’s side host Super League Huddersfield Giants on February 2, following their Challenge Cup second round tie against Waterhead Warriors or Leigh Miners.
Featherstone Rovers’ 22-man squad to face Goole: Caleb Aekins, Derrell Olpherts, Josh Hardcastle, Jayden Hatton, Connor Wynne, Thomas Lacans, Zach Herring, Gadwin Springer, Will Jubb, Jimmy Beckett, Brad Day, Toby Boothroyd, Clay Webb, Connor Jones, Robson Stevens, Jordan Williams, Calum Turner, Maddox Jeffrey, Jonny Openshaw, Max Rhodes (trialist), Dan Clarke (trialist), Ben Reynolds.
