Featherstone Rovers Ladies sign ex-Castleford Tigers forward

Featherstone Rovers Ladies have strengthened their side further with the addition of Super League stalwart Sammy Watts.

Watts, 24, previously featured for the Castleford Tigers in the Women’s Super League however was going to hang up the boots to focus on her career outside of the sport.

But the prop forward decided she has unfinished business and is not quite ready to retire and has bolstered Marie Colley’s side ahead of their clash against Warrington Wolves this Sunday.

Watts said: “I fell out of love with the game and was going to focus on other things but after having conversations with the coaches it was clear that they are striving to be a top team in the division and it is something I want to be a part of.

“I want to enjoy my rugby again and I think with this group of girls that will be more than possible, they are a great bunch and hopefully come the end of the year we will be pushing for promotion.

“Having worked with Marie Colley at Castleford I know exactly what she will expect from everyone that pulls on a shirt and hopefully I can add to what is already a strong team.”

Head Coach Marie Colley previously coached Watts for five years at the Tigers and is elated to have brought her back into the sport.

“Having worked with Sammy for the last five years at Castleford I know the added quality that she will be able to bring to this side.

“I said before that we will continue to look for players who add to what we already have and she is a forward that brings plenty of Super League experience with her whilst also being a real leader on the field.”
