Featherstone Rovers confirm signing of former Warrington Wolves man

Featherstone Rovers

Featherstone Rovers looked the most likely side to gain promotion to the Super League from the Championship for several years, however, a string of heart-breaking play-off defeats denied the club the chance to play in the top tier.

Having consistently topped the Championship in previous seasons, Rovers have been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons this year. The club has been embroiled in a number of off-field controversies, including a public spat with former player, Dane Chisholm, over unpaid wages.

They were also subject to a winding up petition from investment firm, Investec, according to City AM. However, news that former Featherstone and Leeds Rhinos player, Paddy Handley, had joined the board gave Rovers hope that better times may lie on the horizon.

Now, the club have received a boost to their on-field hopes for the rest of the season, as the club has announced the signing of a Super League with a strong pedigree in Super League.

At a club fans’ forum last night, Featherstone confirmed the signing of Dec Patton. He joins the club from the Swinton Lions. Rovers announced the signing on social media site, X (formerly Twitter) this morning. The post stated:

“Great to have you with us, Dec! As James Ford announced at our fans forum last night, we have secured the signing of Dec Patton from Swinton Lions until the end of the season.”

Patton is a product of the Warrington Wolves academy and played 108 games for the club over a six year spell. He left the club to join Salford Red Devils in 2021, before spending two years at the Bradford Bulls. He joined Swinton for the 2024 season, but will now run out for the Rovers.

Patton joins Featherstone with the club currently in sixth place in the Championship. They are 10 points behind leaders, Wakefield Trinity, with 11 games played so far this season. They are two points behind the Bradford Bulls, who have also announced a string of high profile signing in recent days, including Franklin Pele from Hull FC.
