Featherstone Rovers confirm new signing incoming amid Super League push as Sean Long calls on fan support

Featherstone Rovers are gearing up for another shot at Super League promotion in 2023.

The Flatcappers have never played in Super League before but have always been just on the outside of the top competition.

After coming up just short in 2021 and 2022, the Rovers are ready to give it another go in 2023 under new boss Sean Long.

The former St Helens, Hull FC and Wigan Warriors halfback has plenty of experience working as an assistant even working with Fev in 2013.

He most recently spent time working with the Leeds Rhinos as assistant to Richard Agar and then Rohan Smith.

He replaces Super League’s most successful coach Brian McDermott at the helm at Post Office Road hoping to deliver Super League rugby to the Rovers in 2023.

He has made a splash already with some top signings including Salford Red Devils star Elijah Taylor, former Wigan Warriors centre Chris Hankinson and Catalans Dragons prop Mathieu Cozza.

Now the club is set to announce another signing as a fan event tonight.

They have promised a “live new signing announcement.”

It also seems that they will reveal a red and blue away kit.

It comes after Long issued a rallying cry to the Rovers fans on Twitter: “Without the fans, there wouldn’t be a team. It’s great that the fans are backing us this year, they give us all the help we need. We’re going into a big year with high hopes and high expectations.

“Without the fans, there wouldn’t be a team. It’s important they stick by us, there is going to be some bumps along the way, highs and lows.”
