Loui McConnell played his amateur rugby at Oulton Vikings and Methley Warriors prior to joining Leeds Rhinos’ academy at the age of 15.
McConnell eventually made his debut for the Rhinos in 2020 during the pandemic. As Leeds’ first team charge on Wembley on the weekends, McConnell was one of the youngsters starring for the Rhinos in mid-week Super League fixtures.
So, his debut saw him come up against Catalans Dragons alongside other youngsters like Jarrod O’Connor – who played in the Grand Final – and Liam Tindall – who featured in the play-offs for Leeds this year – also making their debuts.
In 2021, he starred for Featherstone Rovers playing in their 1895 Cup Final win over York City Knights.
Later that season he joined Castleford Tigers on a short term loan in July.
Now though his career at Post Office Road has come to an end with Featherstone confirming his move to Doncaster today saying: “Loui McConnell will leave the club to join Doncaster. We wish Loui every success and thank him for all his efforts, including that 1895 Cup win at Wembley.”
On his time at the club, McConnell said: “I’d like to thank everyone at Featherstone for the last two years and for making my time there so memorable.
“I wish all the boys and staff the best of luck for next year.”
