Featherstone Rovers 14-34 Hull FC: Major talking points and player ratings

Part two of the supposedly named “Battle of Post Office Road” proved to be a much cleaner affair this time around as Hull FC eased their way into the Betfred Challenge Cup quarter-finals with a 34-14 win over Featherstone Rovers. A similar story in terms of score line but not a single card was shown! Here, we bring you the talking points and player ratings.

Major Talking Points:

1. Ruthless first 40 from the Airlie Birds

After conceding in the first minute of play, Hull fought back and showed no mercy. Two tries apiece from Josh Griffin and Carlos Tuimavave, along with efforts from Bureta Faraimo and man of the match Jordan Johnstone put Hull 34-4 ahead at half-time, leaving Featherstone with no way back into the contest.

2. Never say die

Credit to Featherstone. They never gave up, despite such a heavy deficit at the break, and won the second half 10-0. Tries from Ben Blackmore and Brett Ferres no doubt gave them some confidence to take back into the Championship season, not to mention closing out the Super League side completely in the second 40.

3. Hull silverware contenders?

Though it was not a perfect performance, Hull nevertheless recorded a third win from three, all of which have been comfortable. They are playing some exciting rugby under Brett Hodgson, who seems to have sparked the best from them but does that mean they can finally go all the way?!
