Featherstone reschedule pre-season game at request of Super League opponents

Featherstone Rovers

Featherstone Rovers have confirmed that one of their pre-season fixtures has been rescheduled at the request of their Super League opponents.

James Ford’s side had been slated to play Huddersfield Giants on January 18th, one week before the Championship outfit commenced their Challenge Cup run, but the clash with Huddersfield has now been moved back by a fortnight.

The Flat Cappers have now filled that 18th January date with a pre-season friendly against League One side Dewsbury Rams meaning they will now play three pre-season games in total.

Whilst Featherstone took to social media to confirm the news of the rescheduled Huddersfield clash, the Giants had done so a day prior as they revealed that the rescheduling was done in order to secure a home friendly for themselves – something that is set to be announced soon.

Featherstone Rovers had announced the clash with Huddersfield Giants for the 18th of January at the same time they confirmed their fixture against Goole Vikings (12th January), with confirmation coming in late November.

However, Huddersfield shared details of the game yesterday confirming that it was slated for February 2nd.

In a statement on their website, the Super League club announced: “Huddersfield Giants will travel to Post Office Road (Millennium Stadium) on Sunday 2nd February (3pm) to face Featherstone Rovers in pre-season.

“We will face off against James Ford’s Rovers as we continue our preparations for the Betfred Challenge Cup and the Betfred Super League, with the Yorkshire side to provide a stern test for Luke Robinson’s men.

“Featherstone have had another impressive recruitment drive during the off-season, which has seen Derrell Olphers and Carlos Tuimavave make the move to Post Office Road among others, as they look to take on the Betfred Championship in 2025.”

Clarity came via both their and Featherstone’s social media posts. The Giants explained: “Our pre-season fixture vs @FevRoversRLFC has now been switched to Sunday 2nd February, to accommodate a home friendly for ourselves which will be announced tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Featherstone posted on X: “Due to a request from Huddersfield our pre-season friendly has now been rescheduled with an additional game with Dewsbury now being announced!”

James Ford’s side will play weekly leading up to their game against Huddersfield, starting with Goole and Dewsbury in friendlies before facing Waterhead Warriors or Leigh Miners in Round Two of the Challenge Cup on the weekend before they face the Super League side.
