Featherstone CEO launches defiant message in face of COVID outbreak

Further to this morning’s announcement, Rovers CEO Martin Vickers has added the following statement:
As has been announced earlier today, the club are working hard to fulfil this weekend’s AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final at Wembley for the good of all involved with the game, be it supporters, sponsors, players, staff or anybody else connected with the game at both clubs and beyond.  This is obviously not a position anybody wants to be in.

Players will undergo a final round of PCR testing throughout this evening from 6pm in line with agreed protocols to determine whether we are able to play or not.  We will work with all parties to advise them of the outcomes of this testing to let our supporters know the position as soon as practically possible

Should the game not go ahead there will undoubtedly be questions on refunds for coach travel and tickets, however, this can only be addressed if we aren’t able to play this weekend.  In answer to questions regarding the likely scenario for the final being played at a future date, we will continue to have further dialogue with the Governing Body to finalise this matter as soon as we are able if this situation arises

Whilst we will all be considering our own arrangements for Wembley and how this may impact us, my primary concern is the health and wellbeing of our players, staff and wider constituents.  This virus has clearly not gone away and I ask you all to look after yourselves and your families and take extra care.

As it stands, we’re on for Saturday and will plan accordingly, I’m sure you’ll join me in hoping we get through the final round of testing tonight unscathed.
Martin Vickers
Chief Executive Officer
