FC’s confidence “fully restored” says Ma’u

Hull FC’s confidence has been fully restored ahead of their restart clash against Salford on Sunday, according to star second rower Manu Ma’u.

The Black and Whites were embarrassed in their last game before lockdown, losing 38-4 at home to Warrington in a game which resulted in Lee Radford being sacked as head coach.

But the Tongan international insists he and his teammates have bounced back over the suspension period and, under new guidance from interim boss Andy Last, will be at their best this weekend.

“I believe our confidence has now been fully restored,” Ma’u said. “On the first day of training, everyone hit the ground running.

“They were bouncing around, there was a real buzz in the camp and has been ever since. The lockdown provided the lads motivation do well under Andy Last.

“We really mean business and now we have to show what we are capable of on the pitch for the rest of the season.”

Ma’u signed for the Black and Whites in the off-season from Parramatta Eels but struggles with injuries have seen him make just three appearances so far this campaign.

However, having returned to full fitness during lockdown, Ma’u is eager to impress and repay the faith shown in him by the club and supporters.

“I think the break came at the right time for me,” he added. “I have not had the best luck with injuries; I didn’t get much rest time due to the international footy series I took part in back in November.

“But now I’m back fresh and fully fit. I am really looking forward to this week’s game. Salford look a decent team, they managed a couple of wins before the lockdown and have some quality there.

“It’s been a long lockdown. I’m keen to get back on the field and show everyone what I am truly capable of.”
