We might have only just started the 2025 Super League season but clubs are already starting to plan towards their 2026 roster and Hull FC fans are already talking.
One of the first players to secure a new club for next season is Hull FC’s Jordan Lane. According to Hull Live reports, Lane is set to join the Castleford Tigers on a four-year contract from 2026.
It came as a surprise to many Hull FC fans, considering he was voted the club’s player of the season in 2024, missing just one game across the course of the year.
The 27-year-old will be a miss to the club’s forward pack as he’s been a fairly consistent performer over a number of years, having made his Super League debut for the Airlie Birds in 2018.
Lane is off-contract at the end of the season and despite Hull FC offering him a new deal, he looks set to be a Tigers player from 2026.
What the Hull FC fans had to say on Lane’s surprise move
Rugby League and Hull FC fans have shared their thoughts on the potential move by taking to our Facebook. Here’s the best of the reactions below from our Facebook page and elsewhere across social media.
Roger Waudby: Been a good servant to FC but has not realised his full potential. I am sure Myler will have offered a fair contract but will find a better replacement probably from the NRL.
David Bottomley: To be fair he has been very ordinary for the last few seasons. I know Cas tried to sign him before he signed his last big contract at Hull. Their school of thought at the time was they didn’t want to better Hull’s deal and the actual words that were used were and I quote HE COULD BE ANYTHING HE WANTS TO BE BUT HE ALWAYS CUTS CORNERS. I still wish him the best of luck and in the past, players do tend to thrive when they leave the FC environment.
Reece Dunbar: Average at best, good for him for getting a 4-year deal though.
Adrian Marrow: Lane’s just an average player, doesn’t do enough for me, inconsistent the same as Fash. Move both on, there are better players out there.
@ehinch1: Not sure on this one. Had a poor few seasons but there’s a player there.
Lee Furley: Would rather we keep Lane. Poor decision IMO.
James Start: Cas offering big money and a long contract. I can’t blame him for accepting but we’ve got this season to get over and plenty of time to look for a replacement, hopefully someone a bit bigger.
Al Gradwell: He’ll be missed. However, he has to look after himself and his family but we need some lumps to both improve and get anywhere near the top half of Super League in the next 3 years. You win some, you lose some. Wishing him all the best, a great servant.
Neil Powley: I like him, gives 100% all the time yet does not break the line all the time but an 80-minute player and a bit of a loss for me. We can’t just rely on youth players. We need a few well-named players still to help our youth come through if we’re ever going to challenge for silverware because I think we’re a long way from that yet.
