Fans beg former Castleford Tigers star Rangi Chase to make surprise Super League move

Is there anyone as talented that has set foot on a rugby league field than Rangi Chase?

Able to mesmerise his own teammates as well as the opposition, the mercurial halfback has settled at the Rochdale Hornets for the past few seasons.

Chase, of course, first came to the UK shores to join Castleford Tigers way back in 2009, registering over 100 appearances with the Tigers until moving to the Salford Red Devils at the end of 2013.

A series of off-field issues contributed to the New Zealander moving to the Leigh Centurions, back to Castleford and then to Widnes Vikings where he was given a two-year ban after testing positive for a banned substance.

After being cast out in the wilderness for two years, Chase returned to rugby league in May 2019 with Doncaster with owner Carl Hall being instrumental in helping the diminutive playmaker get over his demons.

West Wales Raiders provided the halfback with a chance to get out of Yorkshire and Lancashire, but that stay in 2020 didn’t last long and he came back to Lancashire in 2021 to join the Hornets.

Since then, Chase has excelled in League 1 as Rochdale attempt to earn promotion back to the Championship with the 36-year-old impressing with each passing week at Spotland.

In fact, his form has been so good that Castleford fans have pleaded with Chase to return to the Jungle and go back to where his Super League life began – and even other clubs’ fans have called on the maverick to rejoin the top flight.

Chase also tweeted, after being inundated with pleas to return, this: “I’ve been told from fans on here come back come back… the reality is I’m not at that level. I’m honest with myself I might be able to do a job. But I’m not that guy anymore. I’m committed to @RochdaleHornets who have been there for me when I needed them. So ya cas fans stop.”

It’s brilliant news for Rochdale who are hunting for promotion to the Championship.
