Exclusive: What now for former Warrington Wolves man and is Super League return on the cards?

This time last year Warrington Wolves made a major signing when they brought in Greek international and former Cronulla Sharks player Billy Magoulias.

A big powerful forward with some great skills, he was a major signing for the Wolves and has characterised former Castleford Tigers boss Daryl Powell’s recruitment philosophy at the Halliwell Jones with Magoulias’ arrival forming the blueprint for Powell’s revamp of the Wolves pack which has seen Chris Hill join Huddersfield Giants and Mike Cooper head for Wigan Warriors whilst the likes of Gil Dudson and Sam Kasiano have joined from Catalans Dragons and Australian internationals Paul Vaughan and Josh McGuire have come in from the NRL.

However, Magoulias will not be amongst this blockbuster pack in 2023 after leaving the club mid way through last year on compassionate grounds.

He has since been back to England in a Greece shirt in the Rugby League World Cup where he showed his class.

He created one of the tries of the tournament against France with a chip over the top and even played in the halves against Samoa showing his quality.

But what now for the former Warrington man?

Well Serious About Rugby League can exclusively reveal that Magoulias will be playing for the Newtown Jets in 2023 in the NSW Cup with his ultimate aim to return to the NRL and make a real splash in Australia’s premier competition in the next few years.

Serious About Rugby League understands that a future return to Super League is not off the table but remains unlikely.
