Exclusive: Warrington’s Daryl Clark speaks on transfer rumours in tell-all interview

Earlier in the 2021 season, Daryl Clark was linked with a move to the Gold Coast Titans.

Having been at Warrington ever since the 2015 season, the hooker has become one of the most influential number nines in Super League – no wonder then that big clubs had come calling.

Though nothing ever materialised from that speculation, Clark has now broken his silence on just what went on during those months of rumour.

“There was some truth in the Gold Coast talks but it was in the middle of a pandemic and clubs were losing money,” Clark told Serious About Rugby League.

“The clubs were looking to lower wage bills with nearly two years without income and pay cuts meant that some conversations between both parties occurred.

“However, I’m contracted for the next two years at least at Warrington.”

Despite the NRL interest, Clark also revealed that other Super League clubs have not come calling.

“To be honest I’ve always lad long-term deals and never really had any talks with other Super League clubs.”

For Clark, it now remains to work with new Warrington boss Daryl Powell as the two try to conjure up a fruitful renaissance after the duo spent 2014 together at Castleford – where the hooker was able to scoop up the Man of Steel.
