Exclusive: Leeds Rhinos star opens up on Brad Dwyer and his “exciting” new squad number

Jarrod O’Connor was one of the breakout stars of 2022.

Though he had featured in the 2020 and 2021 campaigns, in 2022 he became a key figure in the Rhinos squad transitioning to a hooked though still playing a role at 13.

He even started the Grand Final at hooker keeping skipper Kruise Leeming on the bench and Brad Dwyer who had been key to guiding Leeds to Old Trafford with some match winning plays against the likes of Huddersfield Giants and Catalans Dragons.

Now O’Connor has taken on the number 14 shirt as Dwyer heads to Hull FC taking on the number 33.

However, O’Connor has huge praise for the role Dwyer played in his development:

“I think Brad has been a really good player for Leeds of the years and had a big impact on some big games for the club.

“He’s made me play better because me and him both wanted to be playing but also because he was always giving me little tips on how to improve at 9 which I really appreciate.”

O’Connor also spoke about his new squad number:

“When I found out I’d be wearing 14 I was really excited. I know a number doesn’t mean much when it comes to picking the team but to know Rohan believes in me enough that I’m closer to the starting numbers gives me confidence going into this year.”
