Leeds Rhinos have done plenty of business going into 2023.
The headline signing is perhaps Sam Lisone from Gold Coast Titans in the NRL followed by Toulouse Olympique prop Justin Sangare.
However, plenty of Rohan Smith’s recruitment has been focused on signing exciting Championship stars like James McDonnell, Luke Hooley and of course Luis Roberts.
The latter of which joins after a year with Leigh whom the former Salford Red Devils man joined from Swinton Lions after being crowned Championship Young Player of the Year.
Speaking exclusively to Serious About Rugby League, Roberts revealed how this move to his home town club came about: “My agent Craig Harrison set up a meeting with Chris Chester and we hit it off. As a season ticket holder for many years, it was the dream to come from standing in the North stand to playing on the pitch in front of the north stand where my family and friends were.”
He also explained that he initially expected to play a lot at Leigh due to the limited numbers they had at the start of the season.
However, he soon realised that wouldn’t be the case and was happy to join Widnes Vikings on loan: “When I signed, there were just a few players signed up so I was hoping I would be playing regular but as time went by, I knew that this wasn’t be the case and so a loan move to Widnes was a good move to get some game time and enjoyed the rest of the season alongside John Kear.”
He will now be looking to make a splash at Leeds in 2023.
