Exclusive: Leeds Rhinos’ Blake Austin gives verdict on Richard Agar

Blake Austin spent three seasons at the Warrington Wolves following a move from Australia.

Now, though, he has been enjoying a pre-season at his second Super League club, Leeds Rhinos after an off-season transfer.

Signing a one-year deal, Austin is determined to impress his new head coach and teammates alike, knowing that the squad they have put together is a superb one.

“Pre-season is going very well – like most clubs we are working really hard to get things sorted for the start of the season,” Austin told Serious About Rugby League.

“There’s a really good feeling amongst the squad and we are all very confident of the group that has been assembled – it’s about getting off to a good start and putting everything together.”

A big draw in making the move to Headingley was the chance to work under Leeds boss Richard Agar who, according to Austin, has the same views on rugby league as the halfback.

“I’ve really enjoyed my chats with Rich since I first started talking with him.

“We see the game very similarly, rugby is about high completion and getting some fatigue in your opposition and then getting some fun off the back of it and I’m sure Rich sees that as well.

“Having Aidan (Sezer – who played alongside Austin at the Canberra Raiders) in there has helped as well and were all very excited.”
