Exclusive: Jesse Sene-Lefao reveals how close he came to signing for another Super League club

Jesse Sene-Lefao was confirmed as a Featherstone Rovers player last week, but it could have been mightily different if another proposed move had gone through.

With his contract at the Castleford Tigers ending at the end of the 2021 season, the Samoan international had chats with other interested sides – including the Salford Red Devils.

It was speculated that Sene-Lefao was ready to sign on the dotted line and make the move to the AJ Bell Stadium for 2022 onwards.

And, the man himself has now confirmed that it was almost a done deal, until the club stopped all contact in a bizarre twist.

“It’s a long story,” Sene-Lefao explained to Serious About Rugby League.

“It came really late to be honest because during the season I was pretty much going to Salford.

“I thought it was a done deal and I was waiting to sign, but the contract never came through and it was a bit of a messy transition between me and Salford – they stopped contacting me and it was a bit weird.”

Sene-Lefao also revealed that he had plenty of talks with other clubs, but nothing really came of them – until Featherstone contacted him.

“I had other clubs other I was talking to, but it was all talk and it never got to that stage where I would sign.

“It was a confusing time, but some Championship teams started to contact me later in the season and the way it all planned out and looking at where I’m sitting I couldn’t be more grateful to get this opportunity.

“In the end, it worked out perfectly, so it was a good decision.”
