Exclusive: Jarrod Sammut rejected move to another club

Jarrod Sammut has recently signed a deal with new Championship side Barrow Raiders.

But, he also revealed to Serious About Rugby League that he rejected a move to a club that still resides in League 1.

Sammut had most recently been plying his trade in the Championship with the London Broncos, but, after playing nine games for the capital club in 2021, he wasn’t re-signed following the end of the season.

That meant that the 34-year-old was without a club, and, as such, was looking around for somewhere new to place his hat – a place which turned out to be in Cumbria with the Raiders.

However, it will not be at the club that he was previously linked with as Sammut has revealed that he has rejected that particular move.

“I had a League 1 club that would have been good for me but I opted not to go in that direction,” Sammut told Serious About Rugby League.

“The body is holding up well and I can’t wait to get started at Barrow.”

Sammut had previously explained that he was working in the security industry in order to have a career following rugby league retirement.

“I’m just using close protection to help keep paying my bills while I’m without a club.

“I’d like to think I’ve still a good few years left in me playing rugby.”

On a side note, the former Wigan Warriors and Wakefield Trinity halfback keeps up an intense fitness regimen, but stressed that isn’t a career he is interested in.

“I’m fully qualified but just not overly interest in PT’ing.

“Everywhere charges an arm and leg for rent and it just isn’t worth it.”
