Exclusive: Huddersfield Giants star opens up on his future with deal running out in 2022

A rugby league player once told me that anyone who doesn’t think about their contract ending at the end of the season is a liar, no matter how hard they try and block it out.

Players let their rugby do the talking as their agents talk numbers, but sometimes stars can run into the last year of their deals as they hope to impress enough to earn an extension.

One such player is Huddersfield Giants’ Adam O’Brien.

Having joined the West Yorkshire club back in 2017, the wily hooker has registered 17 tries in almost 100 appearances, but is out of contract at the end of 2022 – something which he wants to get sorted to stay at the John Smith’s Stadium.

“It’s in the back of my mind that I am out of contract,” O’Brien told Serious About Rugby League.

“But, instead of putting that pressure on me all I can do is perform week in week out for the team.

“I would love to continue my career at Huddersfield as I’ve enjoyed every part of my time here at the club so far.”

Huddersfield will be aiming for a more improved 2022 Super League season after enduring a tough start to 2021.

O’Brien is one of 16 first-team members out of contract at the end of 2022.
