Exclusive: Ex-Wigan Warriors hooker Amir Bourouh reveals other club interest in his signature

Amir Bourouh debuted as a Wigan Warriors player back in 2019 as an 18-year-old.

He looked to be gearing himself up to be number two at the club behind Sam Powell in the hooking position, but made just nine appearances for the first-team before deciding to leave permanently for the Salford Red Devils ahead of the 2022 Super League season.

That had followed an extended loan period at the Halifax Panthers, where the 20-year-old made 11 appearances.

But, his move to Salford may not have come about had talks with other clubs come off.

“I believe there were talks with a few other clubs. However when speaking with Iestyn Harris (my agent) about the opportunity to join Salford I was really interested,” Bourouh told Serious About Rugby League.

“And then speaking with Ian Blease about the pathway opportunities I could have to play Super League sold it for me.”

Bourouh is already praising new boss Paul Rowley for the way that he has handled being in the top job at the Red Devils after being appointed in place of Richard Marshall.

“I feel like I’m learning a lot from him already as he knows what it takes to play hooker at a top level.

“He’s honest and demands the best from me which is what will help me get to that next level.”
