Exclusive: Ex-Warrington Wolves and Salford Red Devils star Ben Murdoch-Masila in line for shock move

Former Warrington Wolves and Salford Red Devils forward Ben Murdoch-Masila could be heading for a shock move.

Serious About Rugby League understands that Murdoch-Masila has been the subject of interest from new NRL side the Dolphins ahead of their inaugural season in 2023.

Dolphins head coach Wayne Bennett has so far struggled to put together a side for the beginning of next year, but things are slowly starting to come together with St Helens head coach Kristian Woolf set to join the Queensland club as an assistant for two years.

The Dolphins have signed the likes of Felise Kaufusi and Jesse and Kenny Bromwich for 2023, but Bennett is still holding on for a marquee player with Melbourne Storm’s Cameron Munster and South Sydney Rabbitohs star Latrell Mitchell touted for huge potential transfers.

However, Bennett still needs a number of big names to fill the squad with Murdoch-Masila one of those in his sights.

Currently, the former Warrington and Salford man is at the New Zealand Warriors having left Super League to sign a deal with the NRL club ahead of the 2021 season.

And, it’s fair to say that Murdoch-Masila has had a big impact on the club since joining.

“To have Benny around the group is like having a fatherly figure to those boys,” interim coach Stacey Jones said about Murdoch-Masila.

“Ben is part of our leadership group, he is really good mentor to our young boys, in particular the Polynesian boys, he’s been great for them.

“I know him and his wife (Brisbane Broncos NRLW forward Roxy Murdoch) have been making sure they are well looked after over in Redcliffe.

“Benny is looking after the young kids but he is also, from what I’ve seen, trying to get himself right, he wants to play some (more) footy this year.”

Murdoch-Masila made over 120 appearances in Super League for Warrington and Salford and has registered almost 50 at the Warriors since returning to the Australian competition.
