Kyle Wood was once one of the best and exciting hookers in Super League during his time at Huddersfield Giants and Wakefield Trinity.

He was part of perhaps both side’s best ever periods in Super League as the Giants routinely finished near the top, including claiming the League Leaders’ Shield in 2013, prior to helping Wakefield Trinity to back-to-back fifth place finishes after helping the club to an unlikely play-off spot in 2012.

Speaking exclusively to Serious About Rugby League, Wood revealed who he thinks was the best team he ever played in: “Probably when I made my debut for Huddersfield Giants, we had players like Brett Hodgson, Luke Robinson, Kev Brown, Danny Brough, Shaun Lunt. That era when I was playing with them was where I learnt my trade.

“It was really good, I had Nathan Brown as the coach, a very good coach, I learnt a lot from him and those players. I’m learning a lot, learning to train at a high intensity and how to perform in Super League. It helped me throughout my career.”

He also diagnosed why this star-studded Giants side weren’t able to win a major final:

“We didn’t perform when it came to the big games, in play-offs we seemed to let ourselves down or fall at the last hurdle.

“I don’t know to be honest. It was one of those things.”
