Former Castleford Tigers prop Jonathan Walker has found a new club – and it may take some people by surprise.
His new team isn’t in the UK – it isn’t even in Europe – but Yorkshireman Walker is now Down Under, plying his trade for the Darlington Point Coleambally Roosters in the Group 20 competition in regional New South Wales, Australia.
In doing so, the towering prop is determined to make it back into the Scotland set-up for the 2022 Rugby League World Cup.
“I was at Macquarie Scorpions last year in the Newcastle competition which has some ex-Super League players,” Walker told Serious About Rugby League.
“After that I played some reserve grade for some NRL teams but now I’m playing back in the country.
“I’m hopefully pushing to be in the Scotland squad for the World Cup.”
Alongside rugby league, Walker also revealed that he has a job in a factory.
“I’m also working at a steel factory called Breakwater Metaland.”
Having played 50 games for the Tigers between 2010 and 2013, Walker has some fond memories of his time at the Jungle.
“It was the most enjoyable time of my career there.
“I got on with every coach as well as the lads – and half of them I still speak to occasionally.”
