Exclusive: Darrell Griffin reveals all on controversial Featherstone Rovers exit

But, it’s safe to say, his Rovers exit hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

After plying his trade at Post Office Road for two seasons, Griffin was gearing up for this third season in the butcher’s stripes of Featherstone, only for a dispute to occur shortly before the season kicked off.

Featherstone claimed Griffin head exercised a breach of contract by playing some rugby union games for Morley RFC without the written consent of Rovers.

However, Griffin took Featherstone to an RFL tribunal disputing the allegation and the tribunal agreed with him.

Of course, the forward’s Rovers career ended, but he moved on to Keighley where he played 14 games before retiring.

And, now Griffin has spoken about those events.”The dispute with Fev was disappointing more than anything,” Griffin told Serious About Rugby League.

“I’d played well for the club and was involved with community stuff and was involved in coaching the men’s weight management scheme they were doing at the time.

“I’d fallen out with an individual at the club in previous years and I knew when Rovers appointed him that he’d cause problems for myself and that’s what happened.”

“As I say it was disappointing as I felt I had one more good year in me and I’d have the finished on my terms but that doesn’t define my carrier so I can live with it.

“I also got paid out, so that was a bonus.”
