‘Exciting’ – Super League club statement after asking Hollywood star to invest

Super League club Castleford Tigers have been making some noise this week and they have now responded to a report regarding their hopes to gain investment.

Martin Jepson has some ambitious plans for Castleford and one of the club’s latest focuses is a Hollywood actor familiar to
rugby league fans. Castleford are seeking new investors as they plan to improve their fortunes in 2025 and beyond.

Russell Crowe is the Hollywood actor in question. Castleford are seeking new investors and it is understood that includes early-stage discussions with Crowe. The Yorkshire Post reported the news earlier this week, with Crowe of course a co-owner of South Sydney Rabbitohs since 2006 and he was a central figure in taking Sam Burgess and his brothers to the NRL, culminating in the club’s first title in 43 years.

The 60-year-old recently denied reports he wanted to sell his stake in the Rabbitohs, branding them ‘conspiracy theories’. Crowe bought a small stake in football club Leeds United last year and while there is no suggestion a deal between the actor and Super League team Castleford is close, ‘The Yorkshire Post understands he has not dismissed Castleford’s approach out of hand’.

Castleford responded to the report today in a story titled, ‘The Club responds to newspaper reports about potential new investors’.

The statement read: Danny Wilson (Castleford director of rugby) responds to the Yorkshire Post article linking Castleford Tigers with Russell Crowe and other investors.

“As a club there are a number of conversations going on with a number of parties nationally and internationally, and we do not want to comment on those. We have made no secret of the fact that the club is seeking new investment, we have an ambitious plan to take Castleford forwards and we are investigating working with like-minded people and investors who love the game of rugby league, want to grow the sport and be part of something exciting.”

Jepson, meanwhile, stated in October his desire to bring in more investment to the Tigers.

“I recognise that I cannot do it all on my own,” he stated in October. “I have always said that we would be open to new investment into the club and would welcome the opportunity to speak to any individuals interested in joining me on this journey to help realise our collective ambition.”
