“Excited” Rohan Smith reveals when Leeds Rhinos’ pre-season begins as he reflects on 2022

Despite only taking over at the club in May, Rohan Smith has had a hell of a journey as Leeds Rhinos boss and after the 2022 season concluded completely last night, Smith is already looking ahead to the next chapter, the first one written fully by him.

But when does it start?

Smith gave an update on pre-season last night: “Players are on a break now, a lot of the younger players coming into the squad from the academy and new recruits, they haven’t played so much and they’ll start mid-November and then it’s a rolling start based on experience and how much rest players need.

“We won’t be all together until probably Christmas or just after by the time some blokes have finished the World Cup and had their suitable rest.”

He revealed that pre-season will start officially on November 14th with new players joining week on week after that.

The Rhinos’ next game will come on 27th December, not Boxing Day like usual, as the Rhinos host Wakefield in a festive friendly.

That’s how the next chapter begins, but what about how the last chapter concluded?

When asked to reflect on the season that was, Smith couldn’t contain his excitement about the next one: “Yeah it probably hasn’t sunk in, I’m looking forward to getting some planning and admin done this week and then a bit of a holiday the week after and letting it digest a bit.

“I’m not good with end of season emotions, I’m always excited about next pre-season.”
