Ex-Salford Red Devils and Wigan Warriors star has been tipped to get his new club the Newcastle Knights back to their best in 2023.

In fact, Australian journalist Alicia Newton has described him “as the man who could get them back on track” as she explained why he is a vital signing for the Knights who let Jake Clifford join Hull FC this winter (or summer down under) whilst the Knights continue to try and find a way to replace Super League star Mitchell Pearce after he joined Catalans Dragons this time last year.

She went on to explain her thoughts behind why Hastings is such a major signimg.

She said: “Hastings showed signs of helping the Wests Tigers out of their finals woes in his first season back in the NRL but ultimately had little room to move before injury cruelled his brief stint at the joint venture.

“The Knights should get better direction under Hastings in 2023 as the rugby league journeyman begins the prime stage of his career.

“Newcastle really struggled with their direction and a consistent halves pairing that took it to opposition sides in 2022.

“The departure of Mitchell Pearce at the end of 2021 left the Knights a key playmaker short throughout the year and it showed.”
