Ex-Wigan Warriors man says Featherstone Rovers are “moving in the right direction” as Sean Long give recruitment update

Max Simpson, in a white Leeds Rhinos strip, holds off Toulouse's Chris Hankinson, who wears red.

This morning, the first signing of the Sean Long era at Featherstone was announced.

The Rovers have signed former Wigan centre Chris Hankinson.

Hankinson spent 2022 at Toulouse and was one of their key players filling in at stand-off and at fullback at times and being an attacking threat.

He has also spent time at London on loan from Wigan having come through at Leigh and Swinton prior to making the move to the DW Stadium.

Now he’s headed to Fev and hoping to get the Rovers to Super League finally after coming up short in 2022 under Brian McDermott after a shock defeat to Batley in the play-off semi-finals.

On signing for the Rovers, Hankinson was extremely positive about the club: “I’m very pleased to be joining Featherstone, a club moving in the right direction.  I’m grateful to Sean and the club for the opportunity and look forward to meeting the boys and contributing towards that promotion push next year.”

Meanwhile, Fev boss and former Leeds Rhinos assistant Sean Long explained why he signed the centre whilst revealing that he is being massively backed in the transfer market hinting that there is more signings to come: “I’m really pleased to welcome Chris to the club, I’m confident that he has the attributes needed to strengthen our drive for Super League promotion in 2023.  I’m very grateful to Mark and the club for the backing they’re giving me in the transfer market, I’m excited to see the fans reaction to Chris’s arrival and perhaps a couple more in the coming days.”
