Ex-Wigan Warriors man makes shock move as he backflips on previous decision for 2023

After agreeing to stay at Newcastle Thunder former Wigan Warriors halfback Jake Shorrocks has backflipped on the decision.

He will instead join Toulouse Olympique in 2023 on a two-year deal.

Thunder should be commended for allowing him to take on this opportunity with the former Super League side as they look to push for promotion.

In a statement the club said: “Following the announcement of his retention last month, Jake Shorrocks has decided to pursue another opportunity with Toulouse Olympique where he will spend the next two seasons. Naturally we’re sad to see him go but we wish him all the best on his new adventure.”

Shorrocks previously said on staying with Newcastle: “I’m looking forward to the new season with the boys and getting stuck into things.

“We know last year wasn’t where we needed to be, but after speaking to Chris and hearing how passionate he is about the club I can’t wait to get started with him.”

Of course, now he is headed to pastures new in 2023.

It is a surprising decision from the halfback but an exciting one for the French outfit.

The French side have lost Corey Norman to the Elite One Championship for next year.

They do have Lucas Albert and Tony Gigot still at the club but Shorrocks will replace Norman at the club.
