Ex-Wigan Warriors man Jackson Hastings speaks out on Super League links

Ex-Wigan Warriors man Jackson Hastings

Former Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils man Jackson Hastings has ruled out a return to Super League in the near future but left the door open for a switch down the line.

Hastings spent three and a half years as a player in Super League after joining the Red Devils in July 2018. The half-back led Ian Watson’s side to a Grand Final the following year before making the switch to Wigan after winning the Man of Steel.

He won the League Leaders’ Shield in his two seasons at Wigan but a move back to Australia beckoned in 2022 as he joined Wests Tigers. He has since moved on to Newcastle Knights, and while he has been in and out of the fold at the Knights, he is contracted for one more season.

Despite that there have been several reports linking Hastings with a return to the UK in the off-season. Speaking to the former Great Britain international in the build up to Wigan Warriors’ play-off semi-final clash with Leigh Leopards, reporter Jenna Brooks asked him about the possibility of a move back to Super League and even mentioned Leigh as a potential destination.

Hastings shut down any speculation, though, while stating he was happy and contracted in Australia.

“No, I’ve obviously got a contract next year,” he said while speaking pitchside to Sky Sports at the Brick Community Stadium. “I haven’t spoken to anyone in Super League.

“A few clubs have been rumoured about that I’m coming back to, but at the moment I’m really enjoying my life in Australia and hopefully stay there for as long as possible and then you never know one day come back here and get to play at stadiums like this.

“I really enjoyed my time here but it sort of ran its race, I’m back in Australia now with family. Who knows maybe one day I’ll be back playing here and hopefully in a game like this.”
