Ex-Wigan Warriors man Jackson Hastings attracting interest from Shaun Wane

Ex-Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils star Jackson Hastings is attracting interest from England boss Shaun Wane.

Hastings has taken to the NRL like a duck to water since returning at the end of the 2021 season and is firmly in Wane’s sights with the halfback qualifying for the nation through his grandparents.

Wane, himself now at Wigan in a leadership role, has recently named a 30-man squad to take on the Combined Nations All Stars in a mid-season Test, but he is also looking abroad for potential stars for the World Cup at the end of the year.

And, Wane is looking forward to heading to Australia to meet with England hopefuls – and one of those is Wests Tigers man Hastings, whose switch to number 7 has helped the Tigers rebuild following a dreadful start to the 2022 season.

“I am coming to Australia for the Magic Round,” Wane said.

“I watch all NRL games and love the intensity.

“Many England qualified players are in form and Jackson is one of them.

“When he was with Wigan, I personally met him and told Jackson exactly what I liked and what I felt he needed to improve on in his game – that still stands.”

It remains to be seen whether Hastings would get a call-up, but the likes of Elliott Whitehead and Herbie Farnworth are on Wane’s radar to meet.
