Ex-Wigan Warriors Jackson Hastings’ contract at new club as swap deal close

This morning Jackson Hastings and David Klemmer were told to “skip training” by their respective clubs according to the Daily Telegraph.

That’s because the two are set to feature in part of a swap deal which will see former Salford Red Devils and Wigan Warriors halfback head to Newcastle Knights and prop Klemmer head over to the Wests Tigers for 2023.

It comes as the Knights finally look to tie up a replacement for Catalans Dragons’ Mitchell Pearce especially after Jake Clifford headed for Hull FC.

Both Hastings and Klemmer are now in the final year of their current deals and could have spoken to clubs regarding a move for 2024 from November 1st.

However, now a move for 2023 looks set with Danny Weidler of Channel Nine reporting that the swap deal will be announced “within a week.”

Meanwhile, he has also revealed that Hastings is set to agree a three-year deal with the Knights which will keep him there until the end of 2025.

Meanwhile, Klemmer is expected to ink a similar contract at the Wests Tigers.

Signing that contract would secure Hastings’ future and secure his spot as a number seven which has not been the case at Wests in 2022 and seemed unlikely to be the case in 2023 at the Tigers with new boss Tim Sheens seeing Luke Brooks as his seven and wanting Hastings to play 13.
