There’s a lot of debate about what’s going on at the Wests Tigers with recruitment and retention.
They’re chasing Wigan Warriors’ John Bateman and have even been linked with Luke Thompson.
The Tigers are also pursuing Parramatta Eels halfback Mitchell Moses which has left question marks over the future of Adam Doueihi, Luke Brooks and former Wigan Warriors & Salford Red Devils halfback Jackson Hastings as all three playmakers enter the final 12 months of their current deals.
This has led to speculation that one of them could leave ahead of this season as they chase the likes of David Klemmer.
Some even tipped Hastings to leave the club in pursuit of a number seven shirt in the NRL. However, according to the Canberra Times, Hastings will be staying at the Tigers in 2023 with coach Tim Sheens saying: “Hastings is contracted. He will be here. If I have my say, Luke Brooks will be playing halfback here next year.”
So Hastings is to stay at Wests in 2023 but won’t be playing at seven.
This could lead to a shoot out between Doueihi for the number six shirt unless Hastings again plays at 13 as he did at the end of last year.
It remains to be seen if Hastings himself is happy about this.
