Ex-Wigan Warriors boss Shaun Wane reveals when his England contract expires

It’s safe to say Shaun Wane has proven the doubters wrong so far during this World Cup.

Many questioned the former Wigan Warriors coach’s squad for the tournament and believed that England could even get dumped out of the tournament in the quarterfinals.

Well yesterday saw England meet Papua New Guinea in the quarters and they produced the best 40 minutes any side has in the tournament to lead 38-0 at halftime against a very good Papua New Guinea team.

To many, Wane, a three time Super League winner, is the right man for the job for the attitude he has instilled in the players as well as their constant pursuit of higher standards.

After the game yesterday, Wane revealed that his immediate future lie with England saying he had signed on for the year after the World Cup having initially signed a two-year contract which would be about to expire.

He said: “It’s another year after the World Cup – I’m very happy, I love the job and I love being with these players.”

Turning to the performance, speaking to the BBC yesterday, the England boss said: “I thought we did really well there. I thought the first half was faultless. The last five minutes before halftime we could improve on.

“The second half was a bit scrappy but overall to beat a good team like Papua New Guinea to get to the semi-finals of a World Cup, I’m really, really impressed.”

Whilst in the press conference, the England boss said he “genuinely thinks” his side can get better which is something for other teams to worry about.
