Ex-Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils star Jackson Hastings targeted for huge move

Former Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils star Jackson Hastings is reportedly being touted for a huge transfer.

Having only just made a move to Wests Tigers ahead of the 2022 NRL season, the halfback has been a revelation at his new club after almost four years in Super League.

And, it seems as though his new club Wests face trouble in trying to tie him down beyond his current deal.

The former Man of Steel has been a big hit at the Tigers with his swap from number 6 to number 7 doing wonders for Wests and that has piqued the interest of NRL rivals – particularly Canterbury Bulldogs whose form has been rotten in 2022 so far.

The Bulldogs sit bottom of the NRL ladder and Australian rugby league legend Andrew Johns believes Hastings will be number one target for Phil Gould at Belmore.

“You probably look at that and you probably say Jackson Hastings,” Johns told the World Wide of Sports.

“He’s the one they’ll have to go after but to get him out of the Tigers, because there isn’t so much depth in the competition at halfback, you probably have to pay $800-$900,000-a-season or even more to get Jackson out of the Tigers.”

That being said, Hastings has recently entered into talks with Wests over a potential new deal – evidence of just how well the playmaker has taken to the NRL upon his return.

“It is the halfway mark and we will be having a look at things,” Wests’ director of football Tim Sheens told the Sydney Morning Herald. “With no game on there is plenty of time and less pressure to look at everything including our recruitment, our kids – who are being chased by a million clubs – and what we do with guys like Adam Doueihi and Jackson Hastings.”

“It’s only just this week past [I’ve] started to ring agents to see where we stand with them and how much they want,” Sheens said. “We’re gauging the market and what it’s going to cost us.”
