Ex-Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils star Jackson Hastings linked with mammoth move

Super League Jackson Hastings

If there is one player that continues to dominate headlines about his future it is former Wigan Warriors and Salford Red Devils star Jackson Hastings.

The halfback lit up Super League in the three and a half years he was in the UK top flight, starring for both Salford and Wigan as he helped both clubs reach Grand Finals and Challenge Cup Finals.

Hastings’ stirring role brought in interest from NRL sides and it was to the Wests Tigers where the 27-year-old made the move.

Since then, the halfback has been one of very few shining lights for the Tigers in 2022 so far, though a move to the loose forward position has called into question his potential future at the club.

With a so-called ‘logjam’ in the halves with Hastings fighting for a halfback spot alongside Adam Doueihi and Luke Brooks, it could be the former Wigan and Salford man that moves on – and it could be to the Canterbury Bulldogs –  according to Australian journalist Brent Read.

“The one Tigers player that hasn’t been linked with the Bulldogs is Jackson Hastings,” Read said on NRL 360.

“I reckon if the Bulldogs said we would love Jackson Hastings, I reckon the Tigers would say he is all yours.”

That follows a link between Wests’ big shot Tim Sheens and Canterbury’s General Manager Phil ‘Gus’ Gould and conversations that will take place in upcoming weeks.

“Sheens and Gus have an acquaintance who is having some health problems, so they had a phone conversation about it and have agreed to catch up for a lunch,” Read continued on NRL 360.

Fellow journalist Paul Kent believed there would be a number of deals being done.

They will be cattle trading don’t you worry,” Kent said.

“There is no way there is not going to be discussion about the roster. It will be the dominant discussion.”

Wherever Hastings’ future does lie, the Australian will be fondly remembered on UK shores for the part he played in some incredible years for Salford and Wigan.
