Ex-Wests Tigers and South Sydney Rabbitohs star Benji Marshall given groundbreaking broadcast deal

Benji Marshall now has a new career role – and it’s one that will involve the Dolphins head coach Wayne Bennett.

He will be given his own show on Fox Sports on Monday nights and his first interview will be with veteran head coach Bennett.

With Bennett one of the most hidden head coaches in the game, it is a coup for Fox Sports

Bennett has rarely done live TV outside of his locked-in commitments in the NRL as a head coach. This is a great indication of the respect the Dolphins coach holds for the retired 37-year-old who had stints under Bennett at the Broncos and the Rabbitohs over 19 years and 346 games of NRL.

It is also seen as a favour by Bennett to help Benji get off to a strong start in the Monday night ratings each week after NRL 360.

Benji’s show each week will look back over the weekend of football and feature the hard-to-get interviews that only he can score through his relationships with players across the game.

His first show is at 7.30pm on Fox League on Monday night.

Marshall is also back at the Wests Tigers to be an official ambassador.

A Wests legend, Marshall registered 346 appearances for the club in two spells following his debut in 2003, but now returns as an official club ambassador after hanging up his boots at the end of the 2021 NRL season.

The rugby league legend – who had one last swansong with the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2021 – endured something of a fractious ending to his Wests playing career which is why many people have called the return a shock, but couldn’t resist working alongside new director of football Tim Sheens.

“Wests Tigers and its fans have been part of my family for the majority of my career and I’m looking forward to continuing that journey together,” Marshall said in a club statement.

“This is an exciting new role that allows me to contribute to the club in a number of ways both on and off the field.

“I’m looking forward to helping grow the next generation of Wests Tigers players coming through our pathways and playing a part in bringing further success to this great club.”
