Ex-Warrington Wolves man’s NRL lifeline as big prediction made

Warrington Wolves

Former Warrington Wolves man Ryan Matterson looks to have been handed a lifeline at NRL club Parramatta Eels.

Matterson found himself out in the cold under Jason Ryles last season, making just four appearances before being granted permission to join Warrington on loan for the remainder of the season in July.

That move didn’t exactly go to plan with the forward struggling to make a lasting impact in Super League. He made eight appearances for the Wolves last season, but he experienced victory just once with a win over Catalans Dragons being his only taste of success in primrose and blue.

Matterson returned to Parramatta at the end of the season with his future at the club very much up in the air. But, according to Wide World of Sports, he now looks set to stay with the Eels.

The forward has reportedly had a ‘heart to heart’ talk with Ryles, and that meeting seems to have given him a new lease of life at the club with Matterson being labelled a leader in training.

As such, the ex-Warrington Wolves loanee looks set to stay at Parramatta, with an unnamed source being quoted as saying: “They mended fences and agreed to start afresh.

“Ryan is a senior player now and still has a lot of good footy in him. He is set for a big season.”

The upcoming campaign will be Matterson’s seventh season as an Eel, having joined the club ahead of the 2020 season. In that time he has made 97 appearances for the club, with 11 tries coming along the way, while he also made his debut for New South Wales back in 2022.

The 31-year-old started his career with Sydney Roosters and spent the 2019 season with Wests Tigers before heading to the CommBank Stadium to work under Brad Arthur.
